Due to the large amount of questions made during the Webinar “Preparing for CTPAT virtual validation” imparted last month of August by CBP (Customs and Border Protection) representatives; today October 19th 2021, C-TPAT directors and the Supply Chain Security Specialist (SCSS) shared the most frequently asked questions regarding the virtual validation process, which consisted on the following:

  • Will first time C-TPAT validations be done physically or virtually?
  • What is different between preparing for a virtual validation from a classic, “normal” validation?
  • How does the on site walk-around work in the virtual validation?

During said Webinar, it was mentioned that the Virtual Validations will only take place for the active members of the program, therefore, new candidates or first-time validations will be made on a physical manner by CBP members.

On the other hand, it is important to mention that the main differences between a virtual validation and a physical evaluation is the preparation, the virtual validation is much more complete so members with a scheduled virtual validation are encouraged to contact their C-PAT specialist, who will guide you through the guidelines and information for the Validation.

By being a virtual validation, the inspection of the facilities can be made in different ways. If you count with CCTV cameras that the supply chain security specialist (SCSS) can access to, this option can be use. As well as using audiovisuals like images and videos for support.

One disadvantage about the virtual validation is that the physical review cannot be made, however, if there is a correct preparation and coordination the virtual validation can be successful. ctpat virtual
