Recently, CBP (Customs and Border Protection) has announced that it is preparing the CTPAT virtual validation process, highlighting some aspects of this new validation process:

  1. Virtual Validations will only be carried out for active members of the program, so new applications or first member validations will continue to be done in person by CBP members.
  2. The main difference between a virtual validation and a face-to-face validation is the preparation, as the virtual validation is much more complete. Being a virtual validation, the inspection of the facilities can be done in different ways. If there are CCTV cameras to which the supply chain security specialist (SCSS) has access, this option can be used, as well as the support of audiovisual media such as images and videos.
  3. One of the disadvantages of virtual validations is that the physical review cannot be performed, but if there is good preparation and coordination, the virtual validation can be a success.

However, in any validation modality, if the company is prepared and verifies that it does indeed carry out and meet the minimum security criteria of the program, it will guarantee its admission into the Program.
